AUT's Hero Hub
New Zealand's most innovative bachelor's programme, along with Cheekee Hero, provided creative opportunities for students. In 2022, Cheekee Hero embarked on a journey to create the Cheekee Tales coloring-in book, targeting a young demographic with a hunger for adventure and a strong sense of belonging.
Fortuitously, AUT's Bachelor of Creative Technologies was seeking projects, and Cheekee Hero happened to be in the right place at the right time. It was a serendipitous discovery. We presented our project online to a room filled with buzzing creatives, each on their unique paths of design, innovation, and creativity.
Our project revolved around Cheekee, our super robot, being drawn by a child in the hospital and brought to life through animation, augmented reality, and 3D modeling. This initiative served as the foundation for our Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
In 2023, we had the opportunity to showcase four projects in person, projects that we believed would genuinely excite students:

Cheekee Tales Art Project: This project promoted superheroes of all abilities through a mural featuring four predetermined creatures, brought to life through animation and augmented reality.

Sensory Board: Utilizing creative technology, this board aimed to either soothe or stimulate the senses, teaching cause and effect, fine motor skills, and problem-solving.

E-sticker: This innovative sticker measured the wearer's vital signs, including temperature, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate.

Smart Wristband or Bracelet: This device connected loved ones and transmitted electronic pulses to lift the spirits of the wearer.
We were delighted to be flooded with students who had numerous questions, ideas, and requests. Their eagerness to contribute was inspiring, and it affirmed the impact we were making in the realm of creative technologies.
